Welcome to The Intown Academy
A message from the Founding Board
The Intown Academy is a proposed public charter school serving K-8
students in the Old Fourth Ward and Midtown Communities. We are proud
to report that after many months of grass roots advocacy, our mission
to ensure a world-class education for Atlanta students took a great
leap forward on June 8, 2009, when our charter application was approved
by the Atlanta Board of Education. We are now in the final stages of
approval, with our application before the Georgia Department of
Education.
The History of The Intown Academy
is short, but filled with hard work and success. As we await our
anticipated final approval in January/February, we have created a
number of frequently asked questions
that provide good background on The Intown Academy, and our promise of
“education innovation in a community-based public school setting.”
Pending charter approval, the expected start-up date is July 14, 2010. Click here for Atlanta Public Schools’ year-round calendar. The Site Selection Committee is negotiating properties, and the location of The Intown Academy will be announced soon.
We invite you to explore our website and please call us to learn more or to ask us any questions.
