MISSION: To educate K-8 students in a small, intimate, and innovative community-based public school setting, creating an educational center of excellence that embodies the diversity, creativity, and the global and entrepreneurial character of the intown Atlanta communities.

The Intown Academy’s educational philosophy is grounded in research including the latest information on effective schools, best practices and instruction of core academic areas to inform all aspects of the school. 

This encompasses curriculum, instruction, and appropriate assessment for each core subject area as well as cultural awareness, character education, technology, health, physical education, nutrition, social services, foreign language and fine arts. 

There will be explicit, teacher-directed instruction guided by continuous student progress monitoring, balanced with an inquiry-based approach to enhance critical thinking, which will form the backbone of our instructional model.

The mission and philosophy of the Intown Academy supports the basic tenet that all children want to learn and can learn at high levels, given a stimulating, learner-centered environment rich in its emphasis on skills and knowledge to ensure success in the 21st century. 

The curriculum at the Intown Academy will have a communications theme at its core to teach our children that a story can be told in a number of ways through various forms of self and collective expression such as music and art; math, science and technology; finance and business; and environmental planning. 

This approach will be complementary to our community’s feeder public high schools.  For example, Henry W. Grady High School is home to the Magnet School of Communication that has consistently produced award-winning work in print/broadcast journalism, forensics, publishing, and the fine arts for the past twenty years. 

As well, the Intown Academy’s International Baccalaureate Primary Years and Middle Years Programmes will be a perfect complement to North Atlanta High School’s International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.
